90,000 or so Spanish hauliers went on strike at midday today for an indefinite period in protest against the price of road fuel.

The hauliers intend to stage ‘blockages and demonstrations’ in the coming days.

The price of fuel has been rising considerably since last August as big-money speculators who have been pulling out of stocks and real-estate speculate on oil and latterly food prices.
