It turns out that the 4 left and single right trainer-clad feet found washed up in British Columbia, Canada since last August are hoaxes.
The ‘feet’ originally washed up on the shores of small islands North of Vancouver in British Columbia starting in August 2007.
The British Columbia coroner’s service has now stated that the trainers were stuffed with parts of animal skeletons to look like human feet.
BCCS, a forensic pathologist and an anthropologist have examined the shoe and remains,
and determined a skeletonised animal paw was inserted into the shoe with a sock and packed
with dried seaweed.
Up until now, much speculation has been given as to where human feet may have originated from with some pointing to the 2004 Asian tsunami and others to organised crime, boating accidents or plane crashes.
The British Columbia coroner’s service calls the hoax ‘reprehensible’ and points out the anguish that may have been caused to the families of currently missing persons.
